It's a sunny Sunday in southern California. And this means I am on the hunt for vintage textile gems at the closest swap meet. Cruising the aisles chock full of midcentury case pieces and geometric Turkish kilims, my focus is squarely on scoping out those one-of-a-kind textiles from far off places.
From Uzbek suzanis to Hmong skirts, there are always amazing pieces to be found on this treasure hunt. African vendors are in abundance with the softest vintage indigos, beautifully worn off-white mud cloths and hand-embroidered cottons. Most recent score: soft indigo throw with metallic threads and braided fringe.
